II finally finished the engine rebuild on my ’52 (s/n 445475). New sleeves, pistons, rings, valves, valve seats, oil pump gears, main & rod bearings, starter ring gear, throw out bearing (after modifying the carrier) and the gratuitous gasket set, plugs & wires. All went well and I learned a lot from reading this forum.
The bad thing is that I was able to use it for about 2 weeks. Seems that the ring gear didn’t stay where it was put. I now need to split the tractor again and weld it in place. I do hope that neither the ring gear nor the flywheel is damaged.
The old girl did start right up with 40 psi. (After running her awhile 30 – 35 psi) I haven’t re-done the compression check.

If the ring gear has moved on the flywheel, the flywheel is probably worn beneath the ring gear.

Welding the steel ring gear to the cast iron flywheel does not always work, at least not without adequate preheating of the flywheel.

Perhaps, it would be better to find a good used flywheel than to risk having to split the tractor again, sometime down the line?
