How many 9N threaded generator pulleys do I have to lose until I figure out what I'm doing wrong?Pulley #1 (original): Came off while bush-hoggin'. I didn't notice the problem until the engine overheated because there was no belt tension to turn the water pump and fan. After scanning approx. 2 acres I had gone over before I shut down the tractor, I finally found it in the grass about 20 ft. from where I'd been mowing. That is to say I found the largest piece - the other pieces are still missing. If anyone is interested, cast steel pulleys don't fair well against a 5' Bush Hog. So what did I do? Like a good N'er, I ordered a replacement pulley from Don B. This one was bright and shiny machined pulley that looked like an improvement over the original. After some pain and heartache I got the new pulley on tight as far as I could force it by holding the end of the armature steady (this is also difficult as there is no good way to hold the shaft to keep it from turning). I put the generator back together, installed a new fan belt, and took off to mow or cultivate or whatever. I noticed the pulley seemed to be holding well so I stopped carefully observing it. Well, sure enough when I stopped the tractor to come in for lunch. Pulley #2 had come off - sometime in the last 1/2 hour over about an acre or so of garden. Who knows exactly where. But this time there was more damage to try to fix. When pulley #2 came off it stripped the threads on the generator. Oops! I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong here. The generator spins freely. -Old Ag 41 9N
