been workin on the tractor today and I replaced points, condensor, cap, wires, ignition switch, voltage regulator, and cables.
went to look for firing order on top of head and found a casting number between #2 & #3 plug
9N 6052 B

so i thought it was a 9n..no biggie
found serial number on side of block
*8N 21752*
so i know that the block has steel sleeves, so my question is...is this a "52 8N? if this is true and it is an 8n, will 9n heads interchange?
oh by the way...the exhaust manifold was made in china...go figure.... :0/

so what do i have??? lol

According to your serial number, you have a 1948 8n, manufactured in 1947.The casting number on the head does not matter. All heads for the 9-2-8n with front mount distributors are the same.Heads for the 8ns with the side mount distributor will fit but the holes for the oil canister are diff.

My 48N head has 2NC 6050, casting date J5-8, block casting date is g308. The head has the boss for the temp gauge. HTH

The SN is *8N131/2085*. The 1/2 are stamped over each other. Never noticed that before. It's hard to tell which is bolder. If the light is shone just right it looks like the 2 is a bit bolder. Doesn't make any difference, but interesting. HTH

The head on my "47 8n has "9N 6050-R" cast in it.
The block SN is *8N 4778*. Don"t think my Grandad or Dad ever replaced block or head.

I can"t find a 6052 in any of my books.

My book shows 8N6050A for the head. Apparently they do interchange. Someone probably replaced the original. Serial numbers for 1948 started with 37908 and ended with 141369.

It's possible the factory still had heads marked "9N" when that engine was originally installed.

Check the rest of the tractor for year indicators. John Smith's page has a lot of go-bys.

My 8N is early 1952 but the engine is a 1951 (funk). The Funk install kit used was an early one using the steel rails.

I believe what you have is a 1947 8N (the 8N actually went into production in July of '47.) I'm not sure but the 6052 number may refer to the type of metal. I'm sure some of the others can clarify.
