Yesterday while i was running some errands, I heard a strange noise comin from the engine, and I turned the radio and ac fan down to hear what it was...It quickly went away and when i went to turn the A/C fan back up....it felt humid and then started blowing hot air. I promptly turned it off and made it to where I was going. I popped the hood and started smelling what smelled like anti-freeze...but my temp gauge wasn't moving at all. what i noticed was that the pulley on the unit was wobbling ever so slightly, and it kept blowing hot air..even on max cool and high fan speed

Later that afternoon i started feeling a knocking in the gas pedal at slower speeds *20-35 mph* and I could hear something that sounded like something "hitting" the pulley and clutch at an idle. So i took a long screwdriver and listened to the compressor and could hear a slight knock...still feeling the same knock in the gas pedal.

I did notice that the clutch was a bit loose on the pulley

I think that it might be the clutch itself that has gone bad, but not sure. I certainly hope its not the compressor itself.....

any help would be great.....

Me'n Outlaw have discussed this, once...

Come to find out, neither one of us lives in town (go figure), but... he's north and a little west (closer to Plantersville) and I'm south and a little east (closer to Tomball).

Still... it's nice to see 'neighbors' out here...

:-)

My granny had land in Tomball when I was a youun. I started N. Houston and at 4 went to Pasadena where I stayed till 18 and uncle sam time.

Like the country there (Magnolia). But like everything else, god..... where'd all the traffic come from. Yuk!

You ain't a kiddin'!!! (on the traffic)

I've lived here for just over 8 years, now. And the only road 'improvement' (outside of a repavement here and there) has been opening up SH249 between the beltway and Spring Cypress Road. I can guarantee you that the population in Montgomery County hasn't sat still in those 8 years!!! Now we've got about 4 times as many people trying to use the roads that were JUST sufficient, back then!!

Grrrrr r!!! Traffic is one of my pet peeves.

Steve

Me too. That's why I moved out in the country and made sure that I was not surrounded. It's 20 miles to the nearest town of any size, but it too is growing like wildfire....bad news. Good news is I don't live there, but when I need something they usually have it and I don't have to go to Dallas..... Super yucko!

If the compressor is turning it is not the clutch gone bad. When the clutch goes it will usually burn and smell as it begins to slip and the compressore will not turn.

If the compressor is turning and you still have a charge of refrigerant in the AC which you will know you have if the compressor is turning because there is a low pressure switch that will turn the compressor off if it runs low on refrigerant.

So if the compressor is turning and there is suffecient refrigerant in the system it probably is the compressor gone bad.
