Hello. I just wanted to mention I uploaded a couple of pictures of the 9N I am getting information and help with. The cat litter on the floor on the right side shows the location of that darn leak I will need to fix, thanks to your advice on how to do it.

I see you have a black right side lower lift arm chain too! One of these days I'll figure out why.

It always amazes me how the people on this forum can analyze a photo. Did anyone of you work for the CIA? ” I noticed you have a half bottle of coke on the shelf right behind the What-A-Burger bag. Judging by the color it appears that you have two fingers of jack in there. Yum yum I bet that’s good.” You guys are good.

I've never had one yet, out of 5 different Ns, that didn't have a black chain there. It's 'posed to be like that !! Noticed the comment "Hopefully these will become 'before' pictures!" in the photo section. Before what ?? That's a nice looking tractor. I know....it's not gray but I think they look good as a redbelly. I hope you enjoy it.
Later, Lee

Thanks Lee. The entire tractor is supposed to be gray?

When it was new, it was all gray. Here's a link to a post I did earlier today containing a photo of 9N'er's restored 9N. Also here is another site showing a well restored 9N.

Now it's your tractor and you can paint it any color you like. There are certainly enough 9N/2N tractors out there that have been painted red and gray that no one is going to say much if that's the way you choose to go. But all gray is what came out of the factory from 1939 to 1947.

Ahhh. I wonder why my 9N has been altered to the red/gray scheme? I do like the way it looks, but didn't know it was so unoriginal. Thanks for the pictures.

You say you like the way it looks. Well, that's one reason so many of them got repainted that way. When Ford replaced the 2N with the 8N and came out the the "redbelly" paint scheme, it was a hit. Also the other reason so many 9N/2N got repainted that way is that when they got traded in, the dealer would have his mechanic go through the tractor fixing anything that needed fixed so it could be resold. Part of that refurb was a fresh coat of paint. Which do you think would appeal to potential buyers? The "old" all gray color or the "new" red and gray? To make the old trade-ins appear "newer" to potential buyers, they routinely got the new colors.

For that same reason, you will also see blue and gray 8N's and Jubilees. They got painted that way when they got traded in for a new Ford after '62 when Ford changed tractor color from red to blue.

Oil or gas smoke in the exhaust. If it's dry lean the carb main jet.
