I have noticed the timing marks on the flywheel since removal, a good solid line, and a couple of small o's is what they look like. Thing is, I don't remember that the flywheel was keyed in any way, so I assume that it will go back on maybe four different ways since there are four bolts. I will want the timing marks to be correctly oriented, so my question is, which mark is TDC on the flywheel, and am I supposed ot align the marks on the front of the crank/cam gears to TDC and then mount the flywheel to show the mark through the timing hole, or am I missing something? My FO 19 is lost in the mail, so don't beat me up...

Ramrod, I installed the flywheel on my Jubilee projcet tractor this morning. The FO-19 manual says what Wayne said, it will only go on one way. It is not keyed. I guess the bolt holes will only line up one way.

This is what I did. I turned the engine over until I felt compression with my finger at the # 1 spark plug hole. This should be TDC. I alligned the timing marks on the flywheel with the notch in the engine plate timing hole. The flywheel went on like a charm. Torqued it down to 85 ft #'s. I got the engine reinstalled on the tractor.

I'm anxious to see if all my repairs and engine overhaul were sucessful. We will see. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

The normal, average run of the mill, NAA has a flywheel with six bolt holes and ya ain't gonna get six bolts in 'till it's lined up right on the crankshaft.Ya can't get it wrong

Don't think those marks have anything to do with timing, but just so that the flywheel will be installed the same way it came off. According to the FO-4 manual the "O" mark indicates the top center position.

Are there any marks, rust patterns, discoloration patterns, etc, on the back side of the flywheel that might line up?

One book I have says the flywheel 'run-out' should not be more than 0.004". If it is, then rotate to a new position and try again. If run-out is more than that in all positions then the face should be machined down, but not to get the flywheel less than 0.885" thick (for an N tractor).

Ramrod..... ...I think we're all getting CRS in oldage.

My N-Ford MPC shows the NAA crankshaft flywheel retainer to have 6-holes, 2-dowels and 4-bolts.

And I'll just bettcha that iff'n you look real closely, you'll find 'nuther set of timing marks 180* around the flywheel from the 1st set of timing marks. So it doesn't really matter which set of index dowels you use.

Oh yes, definately white paint mark your timing marks BEFORE you install the flywheel 'cuz its eazier then..... ..Dell

BTW..... .the FRONT crankshaft gear is half-moon keyed and the camshaft gear is 4-bolts (off-set) and indexed marked to the crankshaft gear index
