I"m repacing the bearings on the steering gear shaft of my 52" 8n. In the IT FO4 manual there is a parts illustration diagram of the entire gear assembly. My Question is on the "bearing retainer" #20. Does the concave side of the cup go up toward the steering gear or down towards the base. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks

With it in your hand should be pretty easy to see the bearing surface on the bottom of the shaft.. but as I remember on my 52 8n( been a couple years.. ).. the shaft sat in the dished section of the bearing.. and then had that little retainer holding it in.. race was in the bottom of the box.

The clip fits into the bottom bearing to hold it on the shaft so that it lines up with the race in the bottom of the steering box.It is held to the shaft with the brass pin.The cupped side goes down. don
