Well the 8-N handles the 4 foot Hog with no trouble. The P.T.O. shaft on the tractor is straight and tight but I do think something is NOT right. When I installed the O.R.C. the TIP of the O.R.C. has about one inch of up and down play. The pin is in place so the O.R.C. can not come off the P.T.O. shaft and with this one inch of play the drive shaft to the hog does wobble. Anyone know if this is normal or is my O.R.C. "Kaput" Thanks

Please be sure to get the ORC installed correctly. One of the saddest things I did as a Ford dealer was to pickup a tractor out of a creek after the owner had removed the ORC. The 6 foot cutter he was using drove the tractor off a 5 foot bank into the creek. He was pinned under the tracor and died from his injuries.

Is it possible that you have an ORC that has the female side sized for the modern 1 3/8 pto.. yet your tractor has the older 1 1/8 pto stub?

My NAA has the old 1 1/8 pto.. and I have the orc that adapts up to the 1 3/8.. it has about a quarter inch of edflection at the end of the stub.. no more.. 1/2 inch would make me replace it..

If yours is the case with the small tractor stub, and the larger female sized orc.. run to TSC and grab a stub extender. It is a sleave that extends your old 1 1/8 pto stub out to the normal length of a 1 3/8 stub.. and the correct diameter. It is about 15 bucks. This works fairly decent. Avoid getting the small sleave for 3.99 that merely bushes the pto stub up to the 1 3/8 size.. it is really too weak for rotary mower use. The other one I mention is also on the edge of marginal.. but it has a tad more metal on it and should be ok.. especially on a 4' hog.

Make sure you still use the correct shear bolt etc to protect your driveline from shock loads.

Now.. if your pto shaft is simply so rusted out and worn down that the orc is loose.. get a new shaft for a hundred bucks.. slide out/slide in. Other possibility is that the orc is wore out like Dell mentions.

Pull that sucker off... in reply to Waterboy in MI., 09-20-2004 16:41:26
Wipe the grease off, take it in to Tractor Supply and compare to new. They may even have a rebuild kit; dunno if there is such a thing but it's worth a shot.

My ORC had a good bit of slop in it so I replaced it. But in response to the rebuild kit, I don't believe so. I took the old one apart just to see, and there is nothing in it that can be rebuilt - no bearings, bushings or anything like that. Just two flat springs, two ratchet pawls, the female end for the tractor's PTO shaft , and the outer housing. I'd hoped for something to rebuild, but alas I just had to break down and buy a new one.
