Could someone summerize the proper break-in periode on a re-built motor, suggested RPM,s, when to load the engine, when to re-torque the head adjust valves etc.

Hi Robert, Recently the Ford board had a good series of posts on break-in and initial oil changes. Amazingly all the posts were pretty much in agreement. I provided a link to those posts below.

The heads on iron engines should be re-torqued hot. If you're one of those wierd cold re-torque guys, doing it again cold won't hurt anything, but..... ..... This should be done within the first couple of starts, when the engine is at full temp. I also re-check the tappet clearences at that time. After the engine has run about 5 to 10 break-in hours repeat the retorque and tappet check. After about 15 to 20 hours re-torque the head again. On engines that tend to have head warpage and leaking head gaskets(like these do) it's not a bad idea to re-torque the head once a year. Good luck...Al English
