She's back in action!

I'm a recent lurker and a first time poster to the board. Just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice and thanks to the sponcers of this message board.

I recently aquired a 9n/2n soon to be a little bit 8n frankenstein tractor (piece-o-this piece-o-that and recently brought back to life). Axle from '40, engine is from 47, tranny and rear-end look to be from around 40 or 41, got some 8n spindles that I'll use to replace the worn out ones after I buy some used steering arms to fit. She'd been sitting for a few years after my bro-in-law bought his new orange K****a. We wound up rebuilding the carb, replacing the water pump, replacing just about everything in the electrical system (alternator (12v), distributor cap, points, coil, plugs, plug wires, starter, battery, on/off switch), gave her new front tires, new seat (the reason why it was parked in the first place), and replaced the worn-out front bearings.

After we got her started again, it didn't take long to notice the milky white oil in the crank case. Over the next day or two I drained about 5qt of coolant from the crankcase. Thanks to the folks on this message board I was able to change the head gasket. Had a boogger of a time getting the head off. I did manage to get it off by gently tapping around the edge of the head with a wide wood chissel and a small rubber mallet. I tried everything else before resorting to that but the gasket pucky and rust had it stuck on tight. I managed not to mar the head or block, keeping the flat edge down and horizontal. After the head came off I did notice a nice deep screwdriver sized gouge at the front of the block, but it was far enough from any of the holes for the water that it shouldn't affect anything. With the head off, it was easy to see where the leak was. #2 cyll had tiny bit of rust around the top of the sleve and on the intake valve.

Got her started last night and took her for a victory lap around the property. So far, no water in the oil and the the radiator is still full. Oh yeah, she runs great! Purrs like a kitten. All she needs now is a little TLC, ROPS, and some paint. Oh yeah, I need to re-torq the head bolts after running a while, lights would be nice, I need to clean the rust out of the gas tank, probably ought to fix the leak in the tranny, ZANE Thang might be nice... She ain't no show piece but she runs now and I look forward to putting her back to work.

Again, Thanks for the help!
