Hi all,

Up here in the northeast, we have a big chipmunk problem. So for the last few months, I have been on guard duty with my 22. It is hard to hit those buggers because they move too fast. I have got a few but they seem to be lined up to move into the newly empty nest. So I came up with this idea. Park the N near a hole and pipe the exhaust into it. After about 10 minutes, the burrow should be full of carbon monoxide. I figure if I kill one in the hole, it will putrify and send the rest of them packing and no toxic chemicals go into the ground.

Comments invited...

Get a cat or two, they love to chase small varmets, and kill them, Give the cats shelter and get em fixed, feed em once a day, you should be rodent free in no time. Im thinking you will save money on 22 shells and tractor gas plus your time involved , cats hunt at night to kill small rats and mice, Its you dollar, cat food is rather inexpensive .

I used to have some land in the north east corner of upstate New York near the Canadian border. There were a lot of chipmunks there. We used to walk around with our 22's. Those chipmunks are ever so curious and would actually come toward us to check us out. That's how we used to get them. On the run however, it's not so easy to hit such a small target.

We do that. It helps if you go around and plug any holes you can find.

I'm not familiar with chipmonks.. but I know that used cat litter will make a gopher vacate.

I have 9 cats at home.. so I can put a hurting on gophers.. they leave and move on down to other 'cleaner' property. The cat litter disolves harmlessly as it is kaolin clay, and well.. cat stuff..

That should work unless they have multiple tunnels and simply walk out the other side. I'm not familiar with chipmunk burrows so I don't know how they build.
Good Luck, Lee

We used to do that with gophers.
