Well I was starting to hear weird noises in the box under the seat, so I decided to pull the top cover. now that I've got it ready to put it back together I have run into the problem of getting the three point shaft to line up with itslittle cup shaped plunger fork. any ideas on how to get them to line up a little less painfully? Thanks

I put a 2x4 on edge across the front of the hole and another 2x4 block at the back. I set the lift cover on those blocks and then I was able to get it all lined up and lower one end at a time. You can do that with one hand and 1-1/2" at a time.

The 2x4 block in the back, you kinda lay that flat on the control spring with one end poking into the hole. Anyway, the blocks allow some control and nuance getting the cover the last 3" or so.

When I put my lift cover on my 8n, I used a tire iron wedged in thru the inspection port, holding the valve on the pump in all the way so that it matched the arm coming down from the lift cover with the hytrol lever inthe down position.

A third long arm with eyes on the hand would have been nice.. but the tire iron did the job.. so would a broom handle.. or even a stick.. etc..

i'm assuming your talking about the cover with the ram cylinder ? if so, when i did i mine put the lift lever down before removal , an when putting it back together stand on the foot boards an lower the cover straight down,it all lined up perfect . hope this helps.
