Do any of you fine tractor scientist have an idea on building a manure spreader for my 8N. I've picked up so many tips from all of you and have been able to keep my 8 running great. Since we've moved here three months ago I've found three other N's within one mile of my house that never seem to be used. Maybe I've found a new project.
Thanks for your help and great ideas.
Jim

Russ, I'm just up 90th St. in Tehachapi. We have two horses also and they generate the need for one. I have a simple idea that should spread about 100 lbs.a load. Let me have your e-mail address and maybe we can talk about the spreaders.
Thanks Jim

If you watch enough of the auctions billets you should be able to find one with a spreader on it. I picked one up last week for $5 yes only $5 and it had 9 sheets of roofing tin in it. It had 2 bars missing in the box chain which was no big deal. I don't think you could build one at that type of price. I've seen them go for $5 up to $500 depending on the auction, go to a lot of them and you will find one very cheap

The dairy farmers around here were always breaking something on their manure spreaders when they tried to use it with frozen manure in it.

Somebody started making a spreader that was nothing but a big half drum with a big shaft through the top with chains welded to it. It was directly connected to the PTO. No gears or chains or gear boxes and it worked like a charm. Frozen manure didn't faze it. Worked just as good on frozen as loose.

It was the only machine that we sold that we wouldn't stand behind! :O)

You got any Tractor Supply Stores around? Go check their's out. Looks like they would be pretty easy to duplicate if you have a torch, welder, and sheet metal skills.

I lost my high school ring one day when loading our spreader with chicken poop. To this day, my wife says that I gave it to "that other girl".
