This is a 9N with front distributor. I converted it to 12 volts a year ago and it has been running find. Yesterday it just stalled and won"t start. Checked for gas, it has it. Dosen"t seem to have spark. Checked the voltage at the coil when removed and get 12.35V at the top and 12.35v at the bottom of the coil. When I install the coil I get just .35V at the top. I tried to crank it over and re-measure and still get .35V. Is the coil bad? By the way I don"t have any current limiting resistors installed. Has run find for a year that way.

Ron, how long did it run before it stalled?

I had just finish mowing the grass so maybe 45 minutes, there wasone where it sound like it was going to cut out but then running again. Also, did you notice my follow up. The coil voltage was 11.82 when installed

Ron..... ...your reported voltages are consistant with a "good coil". 12.35 at the top and bottom of a dangleing coil is consistant with an "open circuit", and 11.82 is consistant with a coil with points closed (or shorted). Check'em.

I assume you do know that its a 2-bolt 15 minute procedure to remove your frontmount distributor and check the points gap (0.015) on the kitchen table, don't you?..... ...Dell, the self-appointed sparkie-meister

I did check the points prior to thinking it was a coil, they looked open, I sanded them a little, but could not find my feeler gauge. Well I took off the distibutor, found my feelr gauge and the points were around .022, I adjusted them to .015 and she fired right up. Thanks to all who posted, as usual, Dell was right on.
