I did htis job 2 months ago.. search for my posts.

All parts were less than 90 bucks, including shipping, a new relief valve, and a brake hone from napa. I re-used my cylinder.. but put in a new NAA piston/oring/washer. I did my pump as well.. If you aren't doing that you should be able to get in and out for about 50$ and a half day of casual work.

You'll need the 3 small top cover/cylinder gaskets.. the top cover gasket, and inspection cover gasket, and follower pin.

Pull the bolts around the perimiter out only.. remove top cover.. then remove the 4 bolts holding the cyl in.

good luck.. it isn't a hard fix.. just time consuming.. and dirty.

Hey Spayed..... ..what? you don't have your own personal copy of the I&T FO-4 manual yet? $27 cheap.

It should be intuitively obvious that you will need a new topcover gasket. And the hydraulic cylinder pressure input gasket. Recommend the new and improved NAA hydraulic piston with "O"-rings.
Recommend you inspect and probably need to replace your cam follower pin. Recommend you do some "archive" searching at the top of this great N-Board.

respectfully..... ...Dell

You get ready to lift that heavy cover without a hoist then lift the front a little and stick a 2x4 under there. Do the same with the back. Do it again to get te front 2x4 on edge and your lift control should be clear of the pump so when you grab hold and LIFT HARD stuff won't hang and get bent up.
Go back in the same way with blocks and you can go and control the last 3" real easy.
You got $90 replace the cylinder and replace the 3 piston rings (reuse the piston). You can't afford that then 2nd best is hone the old cylinder, new piston, and oring ($25 if you have a hone).

If you're using that 134D universal fluid in reply to CATFIXER, 09-26-2004 11:12:12
you might replace it with the heavier M-4864A & B, SAE 90 above 32-degrees, SAE 80 below 32-degrees (if slow is a problem). The heavier fluid won't get by the worn rings/cylinder so fast.
Thanks for the tip.
