Has anyone installed the electronic ingition I seen advertised for 2n,8N,9N?

If so how does it work.

Beats installing new points every year especially on a front mount distributor

I've had it on two 8n's and an 801. Wouldn't take anything for it. Works great!

If your 6v electrical system is in great condition.. you are just able to use the electronic ignition. If your system drops below 4v when the starter is running and the module is energized.. it won't spark..

Not sure why you guys have to dink with points so much.. my 8n is going on a couple years now with neary an adjustment... same with my NAA

I'm very happy with the electronic ignition on my 9N. It sits out in the weather and I was always fumbling with the points. Fires up every time now.
I went with the Gennesee brand.

Ron..... ...donnno how many time we haffta say this; (check the ARCHIVES!!!) Unlike the more common and popular roundbody distributors, the Pertronix frontmount electronic ignition conversion ($200+) is NOT A SIMPLE DROP-IN CONVERSION inside the squarecan 4-nipple frontmount distributor. There issn't room, the magductor doesn't fit, the module requires seperate 12 volts excitation and therefore also requires a 12 volt negative ground conversion. ($150+)

Except for the "braggin' rights", I can change alotta frontmount coils and points for $400. Granted, the quality and reliablility of the frontmount ignition system is not as robust as we'd like'm to be, but I've got better uses for $400.

Remember the 6 volt MANTRA: "keep'em clean, bright and tight"..... ....respectfully, Dell a 12 volt advocate for the right reason

I installed the Pertronix EI retrofit on my front mount 6v positive ground '49 8n. I bought mine here on this site - the 1247XTP6 part number.

I was done with the retrofit in about 20 minutes and the old girl started right up and has worked fine for over 3 months now.

Not sure what you are calling a 'magductor' but the magnet doughnut was a little tight but snapped right on and off with only a little more pressure than one would expect. But it was pretty simple, and there was plenty of room for the pickup and magnet doughnut.

No 12 volt upgrade required. I did wire mine a little different than the instructions; I put the ballast resistor inline with the module connection that goes to ground.

With shipping, some 12 gauge wire, crimp connectors and a couple of new terminal lugs I was only out about $170 for the whole shebang. Well worth it from my standpoint as I was pretty sick of dinkin with the points and having difficulty running in damp conditions.

I use it on my 12V 8-N! Been a couple of years, and I really love it! Before, the ign was un-reliable, but since changing it, there have been no problems! Starts every time, idles lower, good! I highly recommend it! Of course, my 8-N is the side-mount dist, have no experience with the front-mount, so others will no doubt chime in!

Don't know about the tractor, but it made a heck of a difference on the trusty Duster!

I don't know why so many seem to have such difficulties with the original points/condenser set up. Works for 50 years and then....Wham!....suddenly it's a pariah!
No problems here! (And no, I won't change the points/condenser set up on my '53 airplane, or my boat, or .....you name it. They're simple, reliable and REPAIRABLE without spending a fortune with some electronics-type geek.) Now if I could just find a points/condenser conversion kit for this 400 Gigahertz computer....!!!
