I have a 52N that wasnt charging battery and getting crazy readings using digital meter. Generator was already repaired. I got advice from this site to use analog meter and replace Voltage regulator. They both fixed my problems. The only weird thing is that after replacing voltage regulator, I used a digital meter and stopped getting crazy readings. Dell said it was caused by chattering regulator. He was right again.
Thanks again.

He's supposed to be right. After all, he's the "Self appointed sparkie meister" and if you're good enough to self appoint yourself to such an important post by golly you're good. I won't challenge him and respect his advice. No brag, just fact. Well, I may dissent once in a while, but it's short lived. Grin.

Seriously

I did a little research in the archives on wiring the 3-wire GM alternator on my Jubilee. I noticed that Dell had written many of the posts on the electrical aspect of these old tractors. His advice, along with that of others, were very helpful.

My 12-volt alternator works like a charm and the original 6-volt coil works fine with the ballast resistor in series with it.

Now, with that said, if he could just get the mind reading thing down pat he would be all right:-).
