I have a 8n now and I was looking seriously at a Jubilee and everything seems OK except one thing...The hydraulics seemed to be slow...It seemed to take about 2 seconds for the drawbar to start moving...It was cold , 25 deg and the tractor was not running long...it did go up and down with a load on it (me) and it did not drift down with the engine off and the load on it...it just seemed slow as compared to my 8n....I do have 134 oil in the 8n but I do not use the 8n in the winter so I am not sure if it would do the same thing...The seller said he did not use 134 oil but the right kind of gear oil ...I checked the oil and it was clean and clear with no signs of water...Am I paranoid or not...As usual any opinions welcomed..Thanks..Alan

Alan, I have a Jubilee which had 80/90 wt in it when I got it. It later blew out the gaskets in the hyd pump so I replaced them. It then blew them out again. I know everyone talks about 80/90 in there N's but I found that when I started using 134, I no longer had a problem. Plus it does work faster. The Jub has an exterior hyd pump and it is nothing like the N series tractor. The experts on this site, Bless them, may argue with me, but I think that a Jub should not use 80/90 wt.

There is not a proper gear oil to use in a Jubilee lift system. Your hydraulic system is completely seperate from your rear-end and transmission. A good quality hydraulic fluid will cure your slow hydraulic situation assuming everything else is up to par. If it is just slow hydraulics you are "in business" with a proper oil change.

what Randall said, except not fluid. I think of hydraulic fluid as the red stuff. Your Ford will like a thin oil better. 134 is the best choice and will cure this problem. John, tOTG

hey tom....that's interesting using heavier wt fluid in the hydraulics. which gasket blew? Mine has blown several times when I've tried to pick up things pretty heavy. The lift cylinder gasket blows right off one of the corners...every time in the same place. I can replace it with my eyes closed. My lift works great other than that. . Is there any risk in using the heavier fluid?

You should be able to lift against the relief valve without blowing this gasket. I'm guessing it blows because you haven't used the two washer-size gaskets on the other two bolts. The cylinder housing needs to be parallel with the top cover for the gasket to hold. John, tOTG

The hydraulics on my 8N and 850 are slow in the winter, so am I. If you work the hydraulics the speed will most likely improve. It can't hurt to take some extra time to work the system and see if it improves to a level that makes you feel more comfortable with the purchase.

My 2N used to have 80/90 wt, before I replaced all the seals and went to 134. On really cold days (actually after a cold night as well...it takes awhile for that tranny to go from 5 degrees to 25 degrees) she'd be slow as molasses for a minute or two, then as the oil got a litle warm, she'd be back to her normal self.

I can't quite say don't worry about it, but it doesn't sound unreasonable....is it gonna warm up before you buy it? the symptoms on my 2N went away at about 25 to 30 degrees.

Another question about NAA (Jubilee) hyd....
I recently bought such a tractor and when I tried to plow with it noted the hyd.lift will only work in "position control" mode. When I shift the lever to "draft control"mode, the system will not lift at all (regardless of the hyd.position control lever movement/position).Any suggestions what might be wrong?

I'm not an expert.....I'd look for a message from Zane Sherman, and ask him.....he's fogot more about N's than most people know....
