my friend has a 1942 8n ford tractor and he has just rebuilt the carb and repaced the the distercap and distber and tried to crank it and pulled the choke and it fried and push the choke back in and gas just poored out the hose were the choke is what could this be?

I had a similiar experience. The float in the carb isn't adjusted right or fuel is coming in by the seat. Another problem I had was the little tube that is inside the venturi was missing causing the same problem. I'd checks those thing first. I hope this helps.

Warm weather you probably don"t need any choke at all. Always try before you use any choke. Hold it on more then couple-three turns and you get gas running out the carb air intake. Called flooding it. 9N/2N manual says pull on the choke and "immediately" release it.
Cold weather that is a big problem.
If an N won"t start with just a little bit of choke you"re much better off correcting the problem than using more choke and flirting with flooding, especially if you expect it to start near or below freezing.
