I want a blade for the FRONT of my 8N.
Does anyone have one to sell?
Does anyone know where to find one to buy?
How do I hook up to the rear lift to control the blade?
I want to mount on FRONT because I can get lower speed than in reverse and be more accurate in steering and driving would be a lot easier.
Any specifics on mounting and any pictures that anyone could post would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, drop me an email and I'll send you some pictures of my front mounted Dearbron snow plow. Got it almost 2 years ago and it works just great. Ron

Tom..... ....gittin' alittle chill in the air and time to start thinking about SNOW. There were several frontmount snowplow attachments made and sold for the N-Tractor. They used a CABLE and PULLEY scheme to lift the front snowplow.

Couple of years ago, fellow N-Board contributor "ultradog" shared his HYDRAULIC LIFTED front snowplow that he welded up. His 3-point 11-hole drawbar compressed an externally mounted hydraulic master cylnder that lifted the snowplow blade with a remote slave cylinder. He DID NOT connect into the internal N-Hydraulics. Check out the links.

Remember: its hydraulic power UP and gravity power down. And its NOT A BULLDOZER, 'cuz yer frontwheels will gitt lifted up off'n the ground and then howdaya steer?

And surprizingly enuff, the rear mounted blade works fairly well in the foward mode and angled to the rightside to slide the snow into a bank..... ....Dell

I have a Dearborn on my 861 which is lifted by cable thru pulleys to the top pin on the right lift arm. Works fine -- can't sell.....

This string in the archives has links to a couple different ways it can be done without finding an original Dearborn or Arps/Blackhawk.

Tom,

There's one listed in the Classifieds (see link at left). It's in Vermont, I'm looking for one closer to Wisconsin.

I saw a fisher 6" mechanics special blade advertised in the pick & save on 76th & Rawson in Franklin,WI for $200. For a handy fabricator it would be a good starting point.

I saw a set up once where an old plow lift cylinder was installed between the upper link and the drawbar on an 8N. A length of Hydraulic Hose was run to the plow lift cylinder on the front of the Tractor. When one raised the lift arms the rear cylinder would compress and force the fluid into the front cylinder causing the plow blade to lift off of the ground, moving the lift arms down had the reverse effect, assisted by our old friend Gravity. It worked slick, I have a 4 and a half foot plow blade kicking around and am planning on building a wing plow to mount on the side of the loader frame. I would use the same setup to run the wing in and out.
Lots of times I can plow with my plow truck but I can't get the snow back far enough before the next storm blows in.

My 8N has a valve installed in the in reply to Tom Schulein, 10-04-2004 05:13:02
tube running up from the pump to the lift. That interanl valve is piped out a hollow stud through the right inspection plate. That valve is held in place against the inside of the center housing by a bracket to one bolt in the inspection plate. That bolt has the head inside the center housing holding the bracket and is used as a stud on the outside to hold the inspection plate. That valve is controlled by a rod up and out a hollow stud in the lift cover. That stud is nutted to hold the lift cover. That valve will let fluid flow to the lift for normal operation or divert the flow externally out the hollow stud in the inspection plate. When the flow is diverted externally that flow is controlled by a plunger in the internal valve. The plunger is controlled by a rod up through another hollow stud in the lift cover.
There is another valve on the outside of the inspection plate. That valve is there to provide two ports and is not required if you want to put pressure on only the one front blade.
My front dozer blade has two single-action rams fed by a single hydraulic line that is also the return. I have a heavy dozer blade but a guy could mount any blade. It's just a matter of fabricating the blade on a mount that matches the ram-powered carrier. The carrier is mounted to the axles with supports running to the rear of the radius rods.
