I did it, went and bought a Sherman High/Low for the NAA. The Old Warrior is gonna be worth more than I am when it's finished...

Does anyone know where I can get a template/tool for locating the shifter hole in the bell housing? Looks like some doofus welded mine shut long ago, and I wanna check it out before I install the Sherman.

Thanks,
Ramrod

How soon before you split your Jube? I need to check a couple of dimensions on mine against an 8N with a combo that I brought home on Saturday.
The tractor is a bit rough but the price was right---free--- so I snagged it to put the combo and an Everett in my Jube. If I can get to it by Friday, I'll post and those that may need a diagram can e-mail.

What a deal! I'll take the next freebie with a Sherman. I'm already split, waiting on a rear main seal and an engine stand, so not to worry. There's a nice sketch on John Smith's site, but there is/was a bolt on jig at one time to accurately locate the hole. It would be nice if I could lay hands on one of those. Mine has a hole that was welded shut long ago by some unknown doofus...

Just remember that the holes for the steps and the combos are located differently. I'll do my best to post by Saturday midday. Going out of town Sun and Mon.

I'm doing nothing for a week at least, going north to Canada for a week long road trip with wife and her papa. When I come back I'll be raring and ready to do some tractor stuff. Lessee if I can post the only pic I have for hole location.

Is that a NAA or an 'N'? Looks to me like the 5 3/4" is real close to the 5 13/16" on my 'new' 8N but, the 2 7/16" is way off. Mine is a full 2 7/8" and the hole is the preferred 'nicentite'. As you already are split, you could install the combo with two bolts and mark center of the bolt hole on the inside, remove the combo and drill a small pilot hole from the inside, Set the combo back in and check for accuracy with a light. Seems like a lot of R&R but, I'd rather go thru a bit more work than try to fix the goof. Good luck. jim

Dunno, that pic is from Jim Smith's site. I assumed that was transmission specific, and it is supposed to be for the combo. My NAA has a hole that has been welded shut, so I plan on doing just what you suggested, and checking location before I commit to the big hole. It oughta be easy to see if the old hole is right from the inside, and I can take my time, because the tractor is all over the garage right now, needing reassembly. I've been doing my cleaning/rebuilding and painting of small parts while waiting for the rest of the pieces to show up. It'll be ready by spring easy, maybe even with a new paint job on the sheet metal, that's the part that scares me.

Good decision to do your own confirmation. I plan to install mine the hard way. BTW... must be nice to have the luxury of having your tractor down 'til spring. I have to have a "spare".
