NEED HELP. I HAVE A 9N, HAD RECENT MAJOR OVERHAUL AND MANY NEW PARTS, RUNS GREAT!, HOWEVER, I'VE GOT THIS STRANGE PROBLEM. I WILL USE THE TRACTOR FLAWLESSLY FOR SEVERAL HOURS, PARK IT, COME BACK A WEEK LATER, WONT START, POINTS ARE CLOSED, REGAP POINTS, RUNS GREAT AGAIN. THIS CYCLE HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES, I'M SCRATCHING MY HEAD. ANY IDEAS? AS ALWAYS, HELP IS APPRECIATED.

IGNITION POINTS CLOSING CAUSES

The points can close when the cam wiper is worn down from lack of lubrication or accumulation of dust on the points cam either of which will cause the wiper to be ground down thus closing the points.

Another way that the points on the N tractor can be caused to close is if the points are fabricated from plastic instead of Bakelite material. The plastic material can become molten and change shape if the engine switch is left on when the engine is not running and the points are closed. Also they can get too hot if there is too much voltage going to the coil as when the ignition resistor has been by-passed or a 12 volt system has been installed and the system has too much voltage going to the coil because of too little resistance in the circuit to protect the coil and points.

Ya didn't say if it is front or side mount. Had to put new bushings in my front mount awhile back. Shaft was wobbling real bad and the point gap setting was wandering all over the place.

Ya did say it is a 9n so its a front mount. Just grab there where the rotor goes and I betcha it will wobble around.
