How do you know if the points plate (timing adjustment)is in the right position..Saw somewhere a picture and explanation of how to check/measure position of the lug on the back of the distrib. just as the points are beginning to open...Who can explain?? Thanks

Set it at 1/4". Do not rotate CCW to set point, CW only. If you go past 1/4" then don't back up, just go on around again. The backlash will foul you up.

Rob, thanks..another Dwg I had seen just was not clear enough to see the position of the tang and exactly where and how to measure..Thanks again

Gary..... ..whats to explain? Picture is morebitter than words. The frontmount 2-bolt distributor is driven by an "off-set tang" scheme. You doubt? Taker off and lookie-look. Instructions were quite well written. Iff'n yer distributor rotor don't eazily drop into the camshaft slott, yer doin' sumptin WRONG.

And NO, there is NO-WAY to time the frontmount distributor with a ignition timing light..... ....respectfully, Dell

I found the drawing again last night on Nseries discussion but the picture just isn't clear..Maybe its my monitor or the fact that I'm more than half blind..Rob sent a drawing/picture that is very well done ..Thanks
