Installed new wiring harness (50 8n)and took great care to ensure it was wired exactly the same. Only problem is that the ammeter now reads 3 on negative side when running. Battery reads about 6.5 at idle so do I just reverse the two yellow wires that go into the ammeter. I checked the archives carefully but don't want to burn something out. Also the best thing about this board is that those who have the experience share freely with those that don't. This will help keep the interest in N's going. Thanks

8nTN, The -3amps running may mean that your Gen is not on-Line OR.. You have the Gen/REG Bat wire connected to the wrong side of the meter. The "Metered" Batt side of the Ammeter should have all the loads, Lights, Ignition Switch, Gen/Reg. Turn on your Lights... Does meter discharge.. if yes your meter is correct.

Hope this Helps

I agree with Al and Steve. Switching the wires will not hurt anything, but I am curious as to what the battery voltage reads above idle, say at about half throttle. It should read more than 6.5 volts. I would think between 7.5 to 7.7 volts. If this is true, then switching the wires should solve your problem. If the battery still reads 6.5 volts at about half throttle, we need to look further into the problem. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

Hi 8n, Tha ammeter doesn't care which way it is hooked up. Switching it just reverses the reading. It's always better to check when you're not sure, but as Steve said, it's ok to switch it. Good luck...Al English
