My 8N will crank but will not start. After a few rotations fuel will run out of the vent at bottom of carb. I replaced the float needle and seat and all new gaskets, but it still does the same thing. I am getting fire, so I don't know what to try next. I would appreciate any suggestions

Steve..... ..while your carb leakage could be incorrectly adjusted float level, I suspect it is more a question of inaddaquate sparkies.

PROVE that you don't have a sparkie problem instead of a carb problem.

Make a "calibrated sparkie tester" by taking enny old sparkplug and bending the side electrode out for a gap of 3/16" (0.1875"). Clamp the metal shell to the engine block. Then plug enny sparkie wire onto the top of yer sparkie tester and cranker-over. Does yer sparkie jump the 3/16" gap with blue snott authority. Yes? then you've gotta carb problem. NO? then you have sparkie problems..... ...respectfully, Dell the self-appointed sparkie-meister

It's likely you give it way too much choke. in reply to Steve T, 10-10-2004 12:49:15
You only need to bump the choke some. In warm weather you don't need any choke.
Eeeeee asy to flood the N.
Spray some starter fluid in there and crank it. If it fires you probably have spark. You want a snappy, blue spark and a nice, yellow spark won't do.

I thought that at first, but it runs out even if I don"t choke it.Could it be the float needs adjusting?

Could be the float. in reply to Steve T, 10-10-2004 16:39:16
Is there gas in intake before you try to start it? If the float valve is leaking it will leak all the time and not just when you try to start.
