Wiring for my 1953 Ford NAA/Jubilee. I need some help on a wiring project. I’m a tractor novice, so go slow and use big words and pictures if you got’em. When inherited my tractor it had no working lights, this has not been a problem up until now, but it gets dark a lot earlier here in Michigan now so I really could use them. I stopped by TSC and purchased 3 x 6 volt Tractor Lights, 100 feet of 14 gauge wire, a toggle switch, and a fuse holder. Each light has a black and red wire. I have looked at the wiring diagram at www.nseries.com/wire.asp. I know this will sound dumb, but what does the terminal block look like? I have also reviewed the archives, and this seems like a popular question, but I’m having trouble sorting through the vast number of questions/answers. Ok I’ve got the parts in hand..... .thanks in advance for your help.

Randy..... ...big hint: you know your ignition switch? Well follow the ignition switch wires back to the 2-stud terminal block. Simple, eh?

DO NOT WIRE your headlight THRU your ignition switch, it ain't heavyduty and your lights will burn your ignition switch out. That means connect the headlight fuse to the stud with the HEAVY YELLOW wire. Then connect the headlights to the otherside of the HEADLITE SWITCH output. Iff'n yer tractor lites only lite iff'n yer ignition switch is ON, then you done diditt WRONG.

And NO, it don't matter which color of wire is connected to the switch, but traditionally BLACK is connected to GROUND..... ...Dell

Thanks Dell, lets see If I got this...Headlight red wire to toggle switch to fuse holder to terminal block, right? About terminal block, If I remember right (not in front of tractor at this minute) wires are in rough shape and look mostly black, lets assume I cannot locate the big yellow wire, what other hints about which stud to hook up to.

Randy..... ...I wrote..... "Iff'n yer tractor lites only lite iff'n yer ignition switch is ON, then you done diditt WRONG"..... ..well guess what? your terminal block has ONLY 2-studds and iff'n the studd you connect your headlight switch wire to, is the after ignition switch ON connection to your sparkie coil, then it should be intuitively obvious, connect to the OTHER STUDD. And NO, it won't hurt your ignition switch to be temporarily miss-connected. ..... ..respectfully, Dell

Hey Dell, while I've got your attention, 1)is it ok to wire the rear work light to the headlight switch or should I get a second switch. 2) having trouble locating a flashing yellow light to mount with the rear work light, most places only stock 12volt stuff, any suggestions where to look?

If it were me.. I'd install a seperate switch for the rear lamp.. even one right at the lamp would be ok. As for a 'blinker' I used a 6v havard flasher module for a volkswagon, and wired it up to an amber trailer marker light, and mounted it right to the top of my SMV plaque., and ran the power right from the rear lamp. The rear lamp has a switch on the base of the lamp, and I installed another switch for the SMV flasher.

That way, i can use the smv flasher without having the rear lamp on, by just having the rear lamps switch off. Or I can have both.. or just the rear lamp.

Gives me an extra feeling of safety while on the road.

Napa carries the 6v flasher unit.. it only has 2 pade plugs on it, and is a thermal unit.. just hook it inline with the lamp you want to flash.. either terminal can be the in or out.. doesn't matter.. needs no ground, etc.

I may have the napa number at home somewhere for the 6v hazard flasher.. ( a 12v one works as well.. but flashes much slower...unless you have a decent size lamp you are flashing.. )

if someone else might know the 6v flasher number for car quest or napa post it.. or I'll try to find mine.

The only package I could lay my hands on was a wagner 6v 3 terminal flasher. Can be used as a 2 terminal flasher, as two of the terminals are parallel anyway. It is a wagner 535.. napa and carquest should be able to cross that.. and at least one of them carries it.. as I'm sure I got it at a local napa or car quest..

Dell,

Yep I had guessed that I had a 50/50 shot at getting it right, but I was worried about frying the ignition switch and creating a whole new problem to fix.
