I'm new to the 8N, and my 8N is new to me.

I bought it with non-functional headlights, and after using the search function on these boards, I knew to a. use 14 gauge wire, b. to not draw power from the ignition switch, c. to not trust a ground to the housing or frame, and most thankfully,
d. to not try to take off the hood by myself to run the wires.

Thanks to you all, I now have functional headlights!

I've also learned from you that the headlights were a dealer installed item. Did dealers weld those suckers on, or did a previous owner get too frustrated with a headlight wobble? Sure made threading those wires difficult...

Good job! Now you're qualified to answer questions about headlights on this forum. Therefore you'll need to change your handle soon. I mean, who's gonna trust advice from a guy who calls himself "8Newbie"? We're only newbies once and only for a little while. Then we all have a certain level of "expertise".

Congrats on getting the headlights working! Not really much to it, but the critical thing is getting a good ground. I NEVER trust that stupid sheet metal ground strap in the bucket. 50 years of rust and multiple paint jobs make it almost certain that it is no longer reliable. And as far as the welded mount goes, if that was done by a dealer, that particular dealer should have had his franchise revoked. I'd guess it was a "fix" done by a previous owner.
