I am in the process of cleaning my '48 8n for painting. I've got every thing unbolted from the engine and mostly wire brushed except the governor. I thought I would wait until tomorrow evening to take that off so I could write a post asking all of you if there is anything I need to be careful of. Is there anything I can mess up? I'm not going to have little steel balls rolling around the shop am I? Everything is coming apart and cleaning up real good. So far its been a ton of fun!

The governor is attached with two different length bolts. Be sure not to put the longer one back in where the shorter one came from when you are reassembling.

Should be an easy job. There is a front bearing plate, that is held in by a screw in the front of the housing, so you should not have any steel balls roll around the shop. Just be careful when re-installing the govy to the engine, to make sure everything is lined up in the hole. On my 51, I noticed that the govy seems to fit in the mounting hole very tight, and it could be possible to not have it lined up right and when you go to tighten it down, you could mess things up on the housing. Good luck!!
