I'm in need of clarification. I pulled the distributor on my 9n to replace the points, procedure went fine, nothing difficult, except, now it wont start. I've read in the manual about distributor timing? It seems pretty cut and dry to me, does the distibutor have to be timed?, If its not timed correctly, will that keep it from starting?, I do have a good blue spark but it seems irradic. Thanks for any help/advice.

I think Bruce is right on target. If you've gapped the points to .015" the timing is most likely OK. I'd check the pigtail and the other contact like he said and maybe the rotor. Sometimes the points will slip like he said too.
Good Luck, Lee

You likely have one of three problems: the points slipped, you've got a ground somewhere in the distributor, or you didn't pull the pig tail on the coil to make a good connection. I don't think you have a timing problem. Pull the distributor & check out these three possibilities; get back on the board if it still won't start.
