I have to agree. After 20 years with my 8N, I finally got a JD 80 HP. I got it home and put a For Sale sign on my 8N, Luckily no one brought it that first week. That's all the time it took for to see I still needed the 8N. Don't get me wrong I "LOVE" all the horse power and loader. but I still use the 8N for 60% of my work!
Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for the reenforcement JD 3130!

I like to think of it like having hammers. There are times when you need that 8 pound sledge, BUT when you are driving 8, 10, 12 or 16 penny nails building walls/etc. that sledge is just NOT what you want to be using, even though it sure will drive in nails that size. :-) So that is why you also have a framing hammer.

Right now, I'm workin on 10 acres, and the folks want to get a loader that will be able to handle 2000lbs give or take, plus they don't want the live PTO, as it can be quite dangerous.
plus there's some stumps that we need to pull out, and such...

Outlaw - Since you just found out rightly or wrongly, that the 8N is too small, I'm going to assume you haven't had a lot of tractor experience. Before you start pulling out stumps and get your self kilt when your tractor flips over on top of ya, do yourself a favor and search the archives here on stump pulling.

By the way 8Ns don't have live pto - they have transmission pto and if you aren't using it you can cover it up with a cap - available from near any N parts supplier.

actually....I have a fair amount of tractor experience....
we just decided that we didn't want the tractor after the realization that it wouldn't safely do the things that we needed done around here..
besides...we didn't want to spend 2grand on a loader or a powersteering kit.

Outlaw,

I'm just courious, what do you need to do around your house that the N is too small for?

When I bought my farm in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge montains of Virginia, I knew from the 8N my Uncle had that an 8N was too small for some of the work I was going to have to do. But, when I got my Uncle's 8N after he died, I found that it was a very handy tractor to have around. Used the back blade on it to back fill the trenches I dug with the Ford 3000 (I got at first) and a Woods back hoe. Even used the 8N three times to pull the 3000 out of "trouble" that it couldn't get out of on its' own. Unless you desparately need the $2K, I'd suggest that you keep the 8N for at least a little while after you get the bigger replacement. You might find that each has a place. The 8N is much more manuverable than the 3000 and pulls a 7 foot back blade realllll good! I have actually moved more dirt with the 8N than the 3000 just because it was so much easier to steer and manuver.

Regards,
Larry
