8N Lift Problem

My 1952 8N lift works fine -- strong and will hold. The problem is when you put it all the way down, the leveling box assembly rests on the axle housing. Any idea why?

Something is bent. It is possible that some time in the past the lift arms were tied down to use a loader and this is really hard on the lift and can bend things and even break things.

The rocker that the ram rod from the ram cylinder pushes against to turn the rocker shaft that the lift arms are connected to can become bent too and let the lift go down too low. No good fix to either problem if it is in fact a problem. You can get into a lot more problems trying to fix it than to leave well enough alone.

rw,
The FO-4 has a line in the 9/2N lift cover reassembly about checking an index mark on the end of the lift shaft. I don"t know if the 8N has a mark or not. If you can get the arms off, you could move the arms up one spline or so. Might check for damaged parts inside and correct rigging first.

I don't believe that would work. Aren't the splines indexed with 1 spline double size to prevent mis-alignment?

This comes up every once in a while. Mine does too. Some have said that is normal, but it sure seems wrong.
