A piece of innertube makes a good shim, cheap, available, lasts a long time, easy to work with, can't be seen when installed.

I had a bad front end shimmy on the old 8n in 4th gear on the highway, I added copper washers to the rear balljoint connection to take up the slop, worked great, also it no longer breaks off the lower right section of the front mount dist. cap .

Dell: I've got some slack in my 8N raduis arms also. What type of nylon or teflon are you recommending as a shim? Nylon fabric? Or a nylon flat washer? Thanks. GA Jim

I cut the bottom corners out of a plastic motor oil bottle and stuck 'em in the socket behind the ball and it worked well to take up the slack.

I don't see why you couldn't braze the ball ends. Are the ball ends the worn item or is it the socket.

In any case I've seen a penny added in behind the radious rod end.. snugged it up great.. and the copper ( zinc ) wears out faster than the ball and socket...

Probably not the correct way to do it,but I just took the caps off and ran a few small mig beads in the cap, seemed to work fine, that was about 6 or 7 years ago..

I like the penny idea. Bonus: Should act like an anode.
