Our wise old friend Dell wrote: "You are WISE not to use the cheaper iron-eating calcium chloride (CaCl)..... ..." a few posts back. Ok that makes good sense to me (my rim is already rusting), and RV anti freeze or Washer fluid sounds like the proper alternative. I have one loaded tire on my NAA. Will a "fill" valve I purchase at Tractor Supply Store empty my tire? What the proper way to dispose of the CaCl in my tire once I get it out? I would not just pour used oil or anti freeze out in back yard (20+ acres). Is this stuff concentrated enough to be environmentally hazardous?

Remove valve stem, Rotate to 12 o'clock, fill with air, insert small straw into valve stem long
enough to touch bottom of tire, rotate to 6 o'clock. you will get almost every drop out.
Best to do after you have drained most out by gravity. This will get the rest. Good luck!

You mentioned that the rim is already rusting and that may already be a problem. Once the tire has been punctured the inside of the rim becomes saturated with chloride and the internal band over the hat section rapidly erodes as well as the bead area. The original rims can be repaired only by removing the tire and tube, using the electrolytic, sand blasting or other total rust and chloride neutralization to stop the ongoing ravages of the chloride absorbed into the rim, then it can be repaired as needed and recoated. Don't like the chloride and here in FL pure water is the best tire loading fluid. To prevent further chloride damage to the rim drain it carefully (filling device is not needed to drain but can be used) by jacking the tire off the ground, rotate the stem to the top, remove the valve core, securely attach a drain hose that is a few feet long to drain the chloride into/onto what you wish, rotate the stem to the bottom and drain. You can hasten the draining by blowing about 5# air pressure into the hose and then let the air force the chloride out. Several repetitions will be required and even then it won't all be out unless it is rinsed and pulled dry with a vacuum or other positive pump. Important thing is not to get any more of the corrosive stuff on the rim or tractor parts by accident. To fill, 90% full with fluid is the norm, fill, vent, fill vent till full to stem at the top of rotation and you will have it.

RANDY,
Just finished what you are talking about. what i did was jack up the rear wheels rotated the tire so the valve stem was a 12:00 o'clock removed the valve stem insert, put a piece of hose on the stem and drained it into 5 gal pails you can control flow better this way. it was slow but better than an extra $50 the tire people wanted. once most was drained i removed the wheel put it on an incline put a buck underneath and let the rest drain on to the driveway. the tire guy stopped today and picked up my wheels took em back to the shop and are gonna remove the tires so i can get em sandblasted and painted. not bad for $45. the ca cl is now on my driveway killing weeds. mike

To speed draining you can shoot some air pressure into the tire..

Ditto.. cacl should pretty much kill vegitation in the gravel road ( for quite some time ) and might even make a clean fence line... course it may be a wide fence line...

The old CACL would make a great vegetation killer for your driveway.
Later, Lee

If it's CaCl it is not environmentally hazardous although it will kill any green stuff it touches. It is used in Iowa to keep gravel road dust down. I suggest you contact your local tire repair guys and see if you can 'donate' your CaCl to them for them sucking it out. Steve NAA III443
