Greetings All;

I am intending to either buy or build a set of pallet forks (3 pt ) for my NAA. What I do need to know though, is what sort of height I will be able to lift off the ground. I have access to some stacking metal parts bins that stack on top of each other and would need to be lift about 29" or 30". Does anyone know if this is achievable?

Cheers, Erik

P.S. Does either Bush or Kerry have a Ford Tractor? Something for the masses of "undecided" voters to ponder.

Erik, Here is a picture of the pallet forks I made for my 8N. I have a drawing for this design. Contact me if you are interested. Philip.

I've got at TSC Carryall (see link) with a box built on it. I take the box off and pick up pallets. It does want to pick up the front tires (no weights up front) and keeping the pallet level with the top link is a pain.

30" should not be a problem. I have a set of pallet forks and I can lift them up almost even with my truck tailgate which is about 38". My tractor is a Ford 850. An N may not lift as high.

Here is a set I built for my tractor. Remember to not put the forks any wider than 34 inches outside to outside. Just form a triangle for your 3 point mount and make it out of heavy steel because the loads will be great at the attachment posts. I made my upper mount out of (2) 3 1/2 in X 3/8 in thick angle iron sections. The forks are comercial ones and very strong! I have lifted 2,000 lb bales with this one no problem at all. Mark H.

How do you keep your front wheels on the ground? If I get more than 1200 lbs on my Ford 850 with pallet forks, my front wheels are in the air. I have wheel weights on front, too...about 100 lbs per wheel.

I have a set of what I call pallet forks I bought at Fleet Farm for $275. They will fit on either the loader or the 3 point hitch. They are listed as bale movers but they have two long forks protruding which will work for pallets just as well. I use them on the loader for moving gravity boxes from storage to wagons. Also for lifting the flat racks off and onto wagons. That way I get away with only half the number of wagons.

I would hit up a forklift dealer for some salvage parts. Might be a cool pump to be had here and there too. If you could afford the rack the forks slide on, you would have adjustable width.

As for the candidates and tractors, I have not seen either with one, but I have seen Bush with a rope, work gloves, and a straw hat, while i've seen Kerry in a wet-suit getting ready to water ski

FWIW

Bush has a large John Deere. Looks like a 4430 in size. You can see it in the backround sometimes as reporters give there presentations at his ranch. Whether he knows how to run it is another question.

It's my understanding the backdrop you see is actually a neighbors farm equip and sometimes bales of hay near the entrance to Bush's ranch. His house is much farther back off the road. HTH

I contemplated this some years ago. Was going to use wire parts baskets for firewood and needed to be able to stack them. Lift range on 8N (which would be the distance the hitch point on the lift arm travels from down to up) was the gating issue- by about six inches. I further thought about trying to incorporate one of those tall jacks the off-roaders use, but never pursued that notion. Also wonder if some simple cam linkage (at the end of the lift arm) might get the extra inches???
Also- maybe a for real "fork lift" mechanism attached to the three point assembly. If the NAA will support an auxiliary cylinder, you"d only need maybe another foot worst case. Sounds like a fun project! LOL

Check out your local scrap yard for an old pallet jack. You can gut it, and make it ready for your tractor in about an hour. I use mine alot, and all I have in it is the price of the pins. Ron

Here"s a couple links to a pallet mover (2,000# capacity) and a carry-all (1,000#) either of which will work. I paid less than $75 for my carry-all.

I measured and my carry all lifts 24 inches on my 9N nearest the tractor....29 inches farthest aft from the tractor.
The carry all is rated to lift 1000 lbs, and that"s more than an N Ford can lift,....so I"d suggest you consider just using a carry-all.
