Hi Guys,

This forum is great for the answers are here. But I have a question I"ve not seen. Is there a six volt battery on the market, that is sealed like the 12 volt car batteries? So that you do not have to worry about checking the water level?

Thanks, Rich

Battery - THANKS GUYS in reply to Rich 2N, 11-05-2004 18:19:05
Guys,

Thanks for the comments. I think I will keep the spending down!!! I will check my charging system also. Just to make sure every thing is in working order. Will also check the battery at least monthly. I am glad a friend of mine told me about this forum. You guys really do come through with answers.

Thanks, Rich

The oldest battery date of 3 6v batteries around here is August 2000.....and it still starts my 50 8N. I've got my money's worth out of it; when it goes, I'll get another just like it from the local tractor store for $38. I can replace all 3 batteries around here for less than it will cost to buy one new 6v gel-pack battery at $150! Oh, and I honestly can not remember the last time I put water in any of these batteries....yea, I check them all monthly (well, I try to) but I was told that if you have to keep adding water to a battery you are over-charging it & had best check the charging circuit.

You can get a new 6V battery from TSC for about $30.00. That kind of makes them disposable.

The last 6v battery I bought was from interstate. We get our heavy equipment batteries from them, and have had good luck.. so the last time the truck came by, I got thier 6v battery that was equivalent to the one I had been using from TSC.. except it had more CCA.. etc.

Rich..... ....yes, "Optimia" makes a 6-volt gel-cell 3-pack sealed battery. They are physically 1/2 size of their 12 volt battery. Me, I wouldn't pay $150 for a battery, unless you needed the braggin rights. But I will tell you this, gitta real 6-volt tractor battery. They are made much more heavy duty than Die-Hards (which die eazy in tractor service). I've been impressed with the 12 volt John Deere batterys I installed in my dual battery Dodge Cummins Diesel. About 1/2 price of the Dodge dealer battery and 2/3 price of Die-Hards and 1/3 the price of "Optimia" gel-cel's. My next 8N 6-volt battery I will buy from (byte my tongue) local John Deere Dealer..... ....Dell

Thanks Dell, I never would have thought to buy a tractor battery for my truck. I guess it makes sense that it would have to be sturdier do to it"s type of use. If they"re cheaper, that"s even better. Too bad I just bought a DieHard two weeks ago. I"ll know better for next time. Eric

I've never seen one. Personally, I like to maintain my batteries. The sealed one's I've had in the past, went dry. By prying the caps off to check the internal condition, I found that they were low on water. I even used them longer after filling and recharging them. Poor mans ways. The market on 6v is probably not strong enough to justify a sealed battery supply. JMHO
