Ammeter

While I was waiting for the hydraulic fluid to drain (next time it'll be a hot day) I tried to install an ammeter.

My ignition switch (late 8N) has three male connectors on the back. Top one goes to the post by the battery, bottom left goes to the gizmo on the starter (same connector that battery cable attaches) and the bottom right goes to another connector on said gizmo and then to generator.

Well, I put the ammeter between the battery post and the ignition switch (top male connector). Needle doesn't budge when I turn on headlights and rear light.

Wrong circuit? Should I have interrupted the circuit via the bottom right wire that runs to the alternator?

F04 has cool electrical diagrams. Maybe I'm just not electrical.

TIA for the help...

The wire digram that I am looking at shows one wire to the soleniod and one wire to the terminal block not sure about your third wire are you sure its not a light. Mine has only two.

Probably a light. Take an ohmmeter and check continuity between the 3rd terminal and case of the ammmeter. If you have it it's a light.

Current carrying terminals should be isolated from the case.
