My 41 9N runs like a champ. It idles fine tahes the gas fine dont sputter under a load and uses no oil. Aside from that it has always been very hard to start when its cold Even when its stored in a garage. Sometimes it wont even start on starter fluid. The only sure way is to heat the carb. I dont care if its 40 below, if i use a hair dryer or a salamander and heat the carb it starts perfectly.I always use dry gas and everything else is in specs. When the weather warms up the trouble is gone . Any ideas appreciated.

MY 44 2N was the same way. Last December when it was 10 - 15 degrees it would not start. I asked the same question you asked here on the board and a couiple of the fellas told me to check the plugs and make sure I had fire. One of my plugs wasn't firing at all one fired up inside the tip and the other 2 had a weak yelow spark. I changed plugs checked the spark and had a big fat blue spark. with a 12v jump I fnally got it started but it still was hard to start when it was very cold. Somebody suggested jumping the ballast resistor with a clip lead to put full 6 v on coil. I did this and it would start everytime. YOU WANT TO TAKE THE CLIP LEAD OFF AS SOON AS SHE STARTS or you'll burn up the coil. I have since converted to 12v system and don't seem to have the problem anymore.

Good Luck.

I HAVE A 41 9N HAD TROUBLE STARTING IN COLD WEATHER. INSTALLED A 8 VOLT BATTERY AND HAVE HAD NO TROUBLE AFTER INSTALLING. WAS LITTLE HARD TO START IF IT WAS HOT THIS ALSO SOLVED THAT PROBLEM ALSO.

Mine was the same way. I put a set of hotter plugs in her and she fires up at 15 degrees. (A real cold day in Alabama) Good luck. Barry
