I have an 8N Ford that won"t move. I think it is stuck in two gears. How do I get the gears unstuck?

At the very least you'll be pulling the tranny cover off for a visual inspection, if the tractor rear end won't move while the tranny is in neutral. Once the cover is off you can look at the gears and shifter rails. There is always the remote possibility it could be a differential problem however.

If it is stuck in 2 gears.. you'll be prying them back apart.

Though i havn't done this.. I'm guessing that having the rear end off the ground so you can take some stress off the drive train will help. ASearch the archives for this subject.. there are quite a few posts on it.

Be prepaired to have to do some repairs after this, as many report chipping teeth during the prying.

Lots of reasons why this may have happened, including a worn shift pattern, or missing/loose set screws on shifter forks..worn rails.. etc.

When it is all done don't forget to make sure the spring and detent ball under the shift plate is clean and free. This keeps the shift rails in a positive in gear position, and helps prevent this problem from happening.
