I have just purchased a 9N tractor, serial 134242 as best I can tell which places it as an early 1944 if my minimal research is right.

However, my model has an air breather that protrudes through the hood as well as a two speed gear shift in front of the clutch on the left side.

I don't read about these options in my limited research. Is this unusual?

Thank you for responding to a novice's dumb questions.
Phil

Phil..... ...yep, s/n 9N-134242 is a 1944 2N engine. All 2N engines start with 9N, and are weakly handstamped and difficult to read.

Yep, the ball snorkle airfilter extension is a dealer installed option. Some weed control tillage was a real dust raiser and kinda gott caught under the curve of the hood. The dust tends to gitt sucked into the engine and wear it out FAST. Mechanical tillage has now been taken over by expensive chemicals sprayed on the weeds. Weeds are a plant growing where you don't want it. The suck moisture and neutriants outta the ground that should go to the crop.

And yes, several companies sold dealer installed auxillary transmissions. Most common was the "Sherman" aux tranny installed between the clutch and the tranny. Can be OverDrive or UnderDrive with a simple "L" shifter lever over your left toe. Most desireable is the 3-speed aux tranny with a crooked S "dog-legg" shifting lever..... ...Dell
