Rebuilt the carb Saturday. It appears this was the culprit since I am now getting it to at least hit enough to kick out the bendix when I crank it. However, it never seems to catch. I started with the screws 1 1/2 out like the book suggests, but today I see in the archives that most folks are starting at 1 turn out. After a few attempts, I do notice all plugs are wet.

I rechecked the distributor as suggested earlier. The points have not slipped. (History: It started just fine after I replaced plugs, wires, and all electrical in distributor. It quit starting about 2 days after the electrical work.)

(1948, front mount, 8n, 12v fully charged, carb rebuilt with short kit, float and adjustment good, all electrical new except coil. Operator is mechanically inclined, but not a mechanic.)

Eamon

It started raining yesterday while I was 'playing' so I didn't take the measurements. Hopefully, things dried out enough that I can get to it tonight. This also assumes my 'todo' list is empty when I get home.

as long as you are checking

if the coil voltages look good then check to see if you have about a quarter inch of nice blue white fire at the plugs--my bet is you will get something less and orangish

if the coil voltages look bad you need to work backwards up the primary circuit

just need to remember you are smarter than the tractor
