Hi Fellas,
Don't have any experience with the N series, but I was looking at a 9N today. It is hung up in gear. Shift linkage? My TO35 diesel did this but there is a cover that could be removed for access to the shifter and rails. No cover on the 9N. Hopefully you guys can address this and recommend a fix.

Thanks, Phillip

I bought my one 9N for $700 at auction with the tranny stuck in gear. As it turns out, it had sat for 30 years and the tranny fluid had set up on everything... locking the gears on the splines and the pump and controls internally. Actually, it was well preserved and after the major job of cleaning everything up it was like new, including the engine.

Can you find out how long it's been since it was used?

George, The man I am buying the tractor from says it came with a recent land purchase. Previous owner was bushogging when it hung up in gear and he parked it under a tree 7 months ago. From what I saw I believe this to be true. I"m wondering if I can winch it on to my trailer without causing any damage.

Phillip..... ....hummmnnn.....brushhoggin' and hung-up in gear..... Usually happens when you don't use an OverRunning Coupler (ORC) on the PTO. Could be a twisted PTO shaft in the hydro-pump sleeve coupler.

The 9N/2N tranny cover is also the steering gearbox (tranny gears splash lube the steering gears) Haffta remove the hood to remove the steering greabox to gitt to the tranny shifter plates and gears. Consult yer I&T FO-4 manual..... ....Dell

Phillip,
Sure, just block, tie, handcuff, and/or secure the clutch pedal down.

Top cover will have to be removed, this is a bit time consuming on the 3 speed but that's what you have to do to see what's going on. A common problem with the three speed is the detent balls on the shift rails, it may have allowed the gears on both rails to jamb,or it could be worn gears.
