For the collector or those who are into collecting parts for various reasons, I had some good fortune today. Of course there are bigger collectors with bigger wants than I, but in my small world this is what happened to my 3 month of budgeted savings for 9N parts:I found an original 4 spoke steering wheel for my 40 9N. I was thinking of acquiring one of these new ones and I priced one out at 250.00. But that was and is a lot of money and so I decided to tackle that problem from another angle to see what would happen. So, in my around and about search, I found an original Ford 4 spoke steering wheel for 40.00 and the center button for 16.00. Total, 56.00. Yeah sure, it has some cracks, but no major missing chunks or gouges. Now I will use some epoxy filler, and some dye and rubber/vinyl restorer wash, and make that wheel look spiffy new again. And I saved 200.00 in the process, met some interesting characters, and had a small adventure. Just thought I would share this for those who appreciate this kind of stuff. 9N'er p.s. And, oh, what did I do with the savings? found a NOS brand new in the box Ford Part 9N 18200-C Governor in mint condition...never used. My 40 9N has an 8N governor on it. So, I am still at it, trying to make this 40 9N true to 40 specifications. And, to make matters worse, I may have found a 1940 aluminum dash today too. Won't know till Friday, but now I will have to save up for that if indeed it pans out. having fun in restoration land. -9N'er
