NAA Tranny Neutral Problem

Installed the Sherman and all went well, did the shims and bearing preload check while torquing down the Sherman with tranny in neutral, turning input shaft while torquing, etc. Afterwards, removed the shifter and flushed kerosene through tranny several times, filtering the kerosene between uses. Now, I can't turn the input shaft, so what gives? Shifter is back on and seems to work fine. I can reach in and turn only one gear, but Sherman input shaft will only jiggle tranny a bit. I didn't lose the spring and ball, and they are back in place. I'm about ready to pull the Sherman and start over, please tell me something to stop me. Thanks guys.

You probably introduced some grit in the bearings by re-using the kerosene and not letting the suspended particles settle out enough before you poured it back in. If it were me I would pour a good coating of clean oil on the internal transmission gears and bearings and use a pipe wrench to turn the transmission a few times to dislodge the foreign materials between the bearing surfaces. It should be OK to run if it will turn. The grit will fall into the bottom of the transmission and eventually end up in the bottom of the lift housing where all grit and sludge goes with normal operation.

Is it possible you washed the lubrication out of the bearings? Since this is the only thing you did after you set the preload and it is the only thing I can think of. HTH. Rick H. Ga.
