Grumpy..... ...this is what I wrote to Jodi just down this question..... .respectfully, Dell

Jodi..... ...did you know that this great N-Board doesn't charge extra if you use extra words to describe your problem? And even more amazing, they don't charge extra if you start your very own question with a good descriptive title. In otherwords don't say "help" or don't say "9N", advertize, be bold and brave. And include enuff information so I don't haffta use my amazing ablility to read minds.

Did you know that you can unbolt 2-bolts and take your 1-terminal squarecan frontmount distributor into the kitchen table and work on it? Just un-snapp yer 4-nipple cap and letter dangle. Reinstallation is a reversal of the removal ...except... finger start the 2-bolts and then twist the rotor until its off-set tangs fall into the camshaft drive slot. Now tighten the 2-bolts and clipper crabcap on. Simple, eh?

Oh and while you have your distributor on the kitchen table, check the sheetmetal points conductor. Sometimes it cracks and looks good but won't work the points. Also gently stretch the coil's springy-thingy for better points contact..... ....Dell, the self-appointed sparkie-meister

And Grumpy, don't take it personal, ...but... you do know how they make sparkies don't you? Sparkies happen when the points OPEN. You can have shorted points and actually watch the points open and NEVER have sparkies.

Posted by SouNdguy in another post a few days ago:For a quick and dirty shadetree test of the front mount coil, set ohms to low scal and check between coil spring on bottom and top post should show anywhere from 'short' to a couple ohms depending on your meter. Now test from the top post to the bottom flat spring on a ohm setting capable of showing in the 4-8 k range... exact reading isn't important.. just something close to that range.

If the coil checks out, it could still be thermally damaged. ( Do you have a spare coil to check with? )

Gently stretch the coil spring to make sure it makes good contact. remember front mount points.. .015 gap.

Thanks Gary,
Everything I own is diesel, so haven't worked with auto ignitions in years. Like Dell says, CRS
Thanks again
