Hi Bama,

SouNdguy had some good suggestions. These 12 volt conversions can be tricky. I would suspect the new coil if all else is OK.

You report that you have power to the coil, but no spark at the plugs. That tells you exactly where to look and what to test.

Power to the coil, and a new coil, means the problem is between the coil and ground. This path will be a wire from the coil, thru the insulated side post on the distribuitor, thru the points to ground.

Check the voltage on the insulated side post at the distribuitor. With the points open, it should be batt volts.. with the points closed.. it should be 0. If you are not getting any volts points open or closed, then either the coil is bad, or the points are shorted, cap is shorted, or the insulated post is shorted. If you get batt volts that never goes to 0, then the points aren't closing.

Are you using a real 12v copil, like a napa IC14SB.. or are you using a 6v coil, and a driopping resistor? Not that it matters much.. but just check the connections on the resistor , if used, and also the key switch.. you may have real poor connections that show voltage.. but drop alot of voltage when the current is flowing.

Try jumpering around the sspected components. Sometimes a jumper wire right from the battery to the coil is helpfull in locating bad wireing.. etc.

Also.. lastly, if restoring spark doesn't get you started.. verify that you have fuel -thru- the carb.. not just -to- it. Open the bowl drain and ensure that you can get a steady stream of flow.

Report back what you find. and if you need any more help.

Thanks SouNdguy…I removed the sidepost on the distributor and ran a jumper wire from Coil through the sidepost hole to the points….still would not start…. but I did get spark at the points……Put on new plug wires and it started and ran just fine
