Got Alvin started today, but I still have questions. I adjusted the screws to one turn out. Still, the engine tried to catch, but didn't. Just for grins (before I got the meter out to check electronics again), I shot some starting fluid into the air intake and VAROOM. Everything ran just great even with the crude adjustments on the carb. After fine tuning them, the adjustments were just about where I started. For the question: I read here that if it started with ether that it was a fuel problem. I agree with this statement. However, why did mine start and run so well? The downtime was less than 3 weeks, so it wasn't like starting something that had not run in a long time. Thanks for any help.

the spark is stronger once you start because you don't have the heavy draw from the starter. that is why it will run well even when the carb is a bit out of adjustment.Load up the engine with the carb out of adjustment and you will see that it isn't running as strong as it seems.

Thanks, Peter. The only thing I haven't replaced is the coil. Everything else is new or renewed, charged and recharged, adjusted and readjusted, tightened and retightened. I think I have it surrounded, but.....
