Hi all, my 3pt system will barely lift and slowly drops when it does lift. Is there a fix for this? First time owner of an 8n with the front distributor. The 3pt will raise and hold when empty but add an attachment and it has trouble. hoping there is an adjustment and not needing a rebuild? HELP! I've spent a fortune fixing already and am ready to wrap a bar over the head of the jerk that sold the tractor to me as a good one! Mike from South Carolina.

Mike: All of the other posts are good advice. I'm also new to the "N" world and had the exact same problem with my 3 pt. lift that you're describing.

In one day, I rebuilt the lift cylinder with a new cylinder, NAA piston, o-ring with a leather back-up ring, and a new cam follower pin. I could have honed out my old cylinder rather than replace it and saved $80.

With the bush hog on it, the lift used to leak down as soon as I pushed the clutch in. Now, it stays wherever I put it. As a test, I left it up for several days and it didn't move. Don't be afraid to fix it yourself. If a leaking cylinder is the problem, new rings (and a new NAA piston if you go for the o-ring setup rather than using the standard steel piston rings), cam follower pin, and gasket set won't set you back that much. Good luck with it. GA Jim

I bought a video on how to repair the hydraulic pump (might have been from this site, I don't remember) and it made a big difference when I did the repair. I would have been lost otherwise. The job was not that hard and it turned a non-working 3 pt into a perfectly working one.

Like Dell said.. it's easy to diagnose, and easy to fix as well.

Less than a hundred bucks to replace all the gaskets, piston, relief valve, hone the cylinder, new oil, and all. Takes 7-9 hours, and can be done by yourself. but having a help for a few things would speed it up. This assumes you have no 'hard' parts to replace.. I.e., the pump is good, that the top cover is good, and the lift cylinder is good enough to hone.

Mike..... ....first thing to do is to remove your 6" round dipstick cover and then look-up inside for "squirts" while trying to lift your 3-point with an implement. No, it won't hurt nuttin. There is 2-possible squirters; the vertical standpipe that passes hydraulic pump power from bottom of pumpplate to the top-plate. This is just a gasket replacement solution and is NOT #1 cause of hydraulic lift problems. #1 cause hydraulic lift problems is the 3-ring hydraulic cylinder under yer butt-buckett. Best repair is the improved NAA-Jubilee "O-ring" piston. There are many hydraulic system hints in the "archives". But looking for squirts is the first step. 2nd step is to gitt-out yer I&T FO-4 manual for procedures..... ...Dell
