Hydraulic Pump Rebuild

My hat is a little tight this morning. I have completed a complete rebuild on my NAA piston type hydraulic pump. I did it all without special tools, but I did have to get the FNH guys to R&R the new valve seats for me, since that does require a special tool to pull the old seats out. I did watch the video once before and reviewed it again once during the process, and I can tell you, it is worth the money. Their one tip to remove the old race made all the difference. I woulda never thought of using a bolt and nut as a jack screw to get behind it and tap it out from the other end, but it worked like a charm. The old pump was a real mess, so I went the distance and replaced all the bearings as well as everything else in the FNH rebuild kit, and was surprised at how little the bearings cost. So anyhow, my thanks to all the gurus here that give me the confidence to go where no rookie has gone before (and come back alive).

By the way, I stopped by the local JD dealer to see Charlie the Parts Guy, and he has Corn Head Grease on sale this month, so I stocked up. I'm thinking stocking stuffers here!

She's gonna love it.

Do you have the original vane style pump or the newer piston style? I am planning on rebuilding the piston pump that is on my NAA Project Rustbucket at some point, and have requested the NAA hydraulic rebuild video from Santa already. Glad to hear it is worth the money. Was your rebuild kit the $35 or so kit, or the much more expensive one?

Thanks,
Dan

I have the round, piston type pump. I got the rebuild kit from FHN dealer for about $50, then added the race ($6), taper bearing ($8), roller pin shaft bearing ($7), and new style wobble plate bearing ($20) to complete the kit. You'll need a long 5/16" or 3/8" pin punch to make your life easier, but you'll see that in the video.

The tape also takes you through the lift section, which will be next on my hydraulic list. My fluid was so polluted with water, that I also have a rust problem with pitting on my innards and bearings. The pump looks like the hard part, lift is much easier and cheaper to rebuild.
