I'm (slowly)working on my 2n that I've had for about 15 years. Gettin ready to think about paint. What is the current thinking about paint codes for the dark gray. I've seen a lot of opinions, but does anyone think that they have the absolutely right color? I should probably know better than to ask a question like this, but...

No one has exactly the right color. I have researched 8N colors for years and have 120 pages of tractor and engine codes and many paint chips on my desk. The original paints are no longer made and when the codes are updated to todays paints there is a always a difference. Some of the best choices are already posted on the net on Smiths N site and here on this board. Everyone thinks their color is best and most are happy with them. Pick a color of a photo tractor example or have a good automotive paint store match a good original part off your tractor. Choose a close paint within in your budget and go for it. I see folks claiming their paint is positively correct when it is actually way off! Likely because they matched a repaint or someone elses right color. By the way the actual replacement paint sold in the actual era of N tractors by Ford Tractor was not a good match to the production Fords either! Why worry!

Thanks, I know I've seen some definite opinions of "right". Was wondering if any of those guys would weigh in with their opinion too? No hurry, this is a slow process!!
