So I wanted to replace the oil lines on my 8N, being there were none. So I got some 1/4" brake lines that are too long and I was going to cut and flair them to size. Now I see that they don't thread into the the old fittings that are on the tractor. It looks like the thread is wrong. The tractors fitting where it comes out of the block on the right rear side looks like a flair fitting but the new flair pipe doesn't thread in more than one or two threads. I don't want to jam it in there I'll ruin the threads on the fitting. Anyone have any ideas on this one? Do I need new fittings also to mate with the new tubing?

Richard, the lines and most if not all of the fittings are available from parts suppliers like Don in NC. Not a whole lot more than buying enough supplies to make them and they will fit and be original style too. The three way tee is near $20 but it is too available.

Assuming (a DANGEROUS thing), that your old fittings are not damaged (flattened or crossthreaded), the new flare fittings SHOULD fit, unless the lines you got were for a brake system with METRIC threads. (QUITE possible.)

Take one of the original brass fittings to a REAL auto supply, and match up some internal flare nuts to the fittings you have.

The brake lines say on them "american thread" and the old fittings look good. That's what's got me puzzled. I can thread the new lines into a plumbing fitting I have lying around so I'm guessing the thread on them is ok. I could have incorrect fittings on the tractor I guess. They just look original, they were plugged up, one with a fitting, one soldered. Someone decided the tractor didn't need a filter.
